
HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 19

Requesting the West Virginia Division of Highways to rename U.S.
Route 79 in Cabin Creek, Kanawha County, West Virginia "The
Allen Tackett Highway."

Whereas, Allen E. Tackett, devoted husband and father, is
married to the former Sallie Ann Belcher, and they are the proud
parents of two children, Lisa and Allen Jr.; and

Whereas, Allen E. Tackett was educated at East Bank High School
and the University of Charleston graduating on the Dean's list with
a major in business management; and

Whereas, Allen E. Tackett has served as a dedicated member of
the West Virginia Army National Guard since 1963 achieving the rank
of major general and serving as BN S-1, BN S-3, BN S-4, BN
Executive Officer and Company Commander, BN Commander, DCS Log,
Chief of Staff, Assistant Adjutant General and Adjutant General;
and

Whereas, Allen E. Tackett has been honored with the following awards: The Legion of Merit; the Meritorious Service Medal with
Oak Leaf Cluster; the Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf
Cluster; the Army Achievement Medal; the National Defense Medal;
the Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal; the Humanitarian
Service Medal; the Armed Forces Reserve Medal; the Army Reserve
Component Overseas Training Ribbon; the Army Service Ribbon; the
Special Forces Tab; the Master Parachutist Badge; the West Virginia
Service Medal with Six Devices; the West Virginia Emergency Service
Medal; the 1988 Outstanding Officer of the West Virginia National
Guard; the 1991 President of the National Guard Officers
Association of West Virginia; and the 1991 Fort Benning Officer
Candidate School Hall of Fame; and

Whereas, Allen E. Tackett was appointed Chairman of the West
Virginia Athletic Commission by Governor Rockefeller from
1978-1985; and

Whereas, Allen E. Tackett has given unselfishly of himself to
his country, his State, his county and his community and should be
honored during his lifetime with renaming U.S. Route 79 "The Allen
E. Tackett Highway"; therefore, be it

Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:

That the Legislature hereby requests the West Virginia
Division of Highways to rename U.S. Route 79 in Cabin Creek, Kanawha County, West Virginia "The Allen Tackett Highway"; and, be
it

Further Resolved, That the West Virginia Division of Highways
provide and erect a sign displaying the name of the highway; and,
be it

Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates is
hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the
Commissioner of the Division of Highways and Allen E. Tackett.
